At Leopard Walk Lodge guests can relax in well appointed “Out of Africa” accommodation which is situated at the edge of a unique sand forest. All rooms and are furnished comfortably with bathrooms ensuite and the honeymoon suite has an outdoor Jacuzzi where in the evening you may relax under the dazzling stars which are so close that you may wish to touch them.

Buffalo Thorn Cottage

This well appointed “Out of Africa” cottage, has 4 separate rooms each with a bathroom ensuite. It is shaded by a giant, 100 years old buffalo Thorn tree with a setting that has an outlook across the plains of the wildlife reserve.

Secrets of the forest

Enjoy being at one with nature with views of the secrets of the forest, in a glass walled honeymoon suite which brings the outdoors in. From the comfort of this double room, you may watch the nyala antelope and other forest dwelling animals browsing in the undergrowth of the forest and observe many species of birds, butterflies and other life forms in the forest canopy. You will also be able to enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi on your veranda’s side deck, where in the evening you may relax under the dazzling stars which are so close that you may wish to touch them.

Awake to the sound of the fish eagle’s cry beckoning to the dawn and be pampered with a delicious home cooked traditional Zululand breakfast. You may with to simply spend your day relaxing or join a guided trail for hikers, photographers and birdwatchers.

The wildlife is very relaxed for viewing as there is no hunting permitted. The wildlife reserve supports more than eight South African red data species of mammal and over 320 birds.

Some amazing endemic mammals that occur in the sand forest are the four toed elephant shrew, the pangolin, suni, red duiker, grey duiker, tonga red squirrel and leopard. Our habitat also supports nyala – a beautiful species of antelope – historically first discovered at False Bay Park. On the Savanna thornveld and grass plains there are zebra, impala, reed buck, wildebeest and various cat species including genet cat, serval, African wildcat, and leopard.

Adventure

Game drive at Hluhluwe with giraffe

For those who may enjoy adventure and action, numerous activities are available: Horse trails to False Bay and at Sodwana Bay are conducted daily and angling is available. Snorkeling and scuba diving at one of the best coral reefs in the world may be experienced at Sodwana Bay. Mountain biking and abseiling are available on the nearby Lubombo mountains and canoeing down a pristine river past hippo and crocodiles is an activity enjoyed by the more adventurous.

Gamedrives to nearby Big 5 game reserves are popular. Surrounding Leopard Walk Lodge, one of the most interesting Eco-tourism areas in South Africa can be found with many vast areas still wild and rugged, Zululand boasts the largest concentration in South Africa, of world-renowned game reserves. Visit Mkuze or Umfolozi Hluhluwe game reserves in an open game drive vehicle and view the endangered black rhino, and also white rhino, buffalo, elephant, which are regularly seen. Lion and Leopard may also be encountered.

Cultural experiences

Nearby venues provide all encompassing experiences of the African traditional way of life. Age old manufacturing traditions are carried out by kraal residence and vibrant Zulu dancing brings close to heart the spirit of the beat of Africa. The soul of it’s people through their handicrafts may be seen at many cultural stores and outlets where baskets, beads and pottery together with beautiful wooden carvings and many other artifacts are available.

The spirit of Africa will be experienced during the evenings while you relax and unwind around the campfire. Zulu dancers with rhythmic drumbeat will entertain you and the eerie call of the nightjar as you retire under the velvet sky with silver stars and a golden moon, will be an experience never to be forgotten.
